The popular 2009 documentary Beyond Gay: The Politics of Pride is finally getting a DVD release next month.
Homosexuality is still illegal in 80 countries around the world and in a dozen or so of them it’s punishable by death. Beyond Gay, created by filmmakers Bob Christie teams up with Aerlyn Weissman, looks deeper into this fact by following Ken Koolen, Pride Director of Britain’s Vancouver Pride Society, as he journeys to several countries to gather information about various Pride Festivals (or lack thereof).
The documentary has been winning awards on the festival circuit and wide critical acclaim since it’s release but has yet to get a DVD release. But that changes next month as the movie will be doing a special screening to celebrate it’s DVD distribution deal at 92YTribeca in New York City June 21.
Be sure to visit the film’s Web site for update on where you can purchase the DVD in the coming weeks.
