Becoming Chaz airs tonight on the Oprah Winfrey Network tonight at 9 p.m. EST. It’s a film that chronicles Chaz Bono‘s transformation from Sonny & Cher’s daughter Chastity to their son Chaz. It was a highlight of the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
Chaz has been on a pretty ambitious press tour to promote the show, appearing everywhere from Good Morning America to just recently appearing on Oprah just yesterday. You can watch the Oprah interview in the videos below:
Several interviews are also just coming out recently with The New York Times and The Daily Beast, and he also sat down with Cynthia McFadden on Nightline which also aired yesterday. You can see the Nightline interview below as well:
And if that wasn’t enough, he’s also released his third book today, called Transition: The Story of How I Became A Man.
I think all that he’s doing to get his story and the story of the transgender movement out into the mainstream is amazing and vital if we’re ever going to make progress with transgender acceptance in this country. The bashing and bullying statistics for transgenders are twice what they are for lesbians, gays and bi individuals and Chaz is doing amazing things for the cause to help curb these statistics. And though he claims that he never set out to be a transgender role model, I think the guy wears the title well, and wish him the best of luck.
