It Gets Better: The Book

The amazingly fabulous It Gets Better Project—started by Seattle author/columnist Dan Savage and his partner, Terry Miller, back during the media firestorm surrounding 8 teens who committed suicide during a single month because of anti-gay bulling—is now a book! Dan and Terry joined forces with Dutton publishing to transcribe many of the videos seen on YouTube and put them together for this great new project.

SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT: When the project first hit YouTube last fall, yours truly made a video to add to the hundreds that were pouring in. And coincidentally enough I got a call from Dutton saying they wanted to use my video in the book! I was extremely honored to say the least. (You can see my name next to the president himself in the photo above.)

Many, many celebrities and politicians have submitted videos that are included in the book alongside regular Americans (like myself) under the manta, “every story can change a life.” The book also includes several new entries and material by famous authors like David Sedaris, along with a list of resources for kids and parents and teaching tools for educators on how to deal with anti-gay bullying.

It Gets Better: Coming Out, Overcoming Bullying, and Creating a Life Worth Living officially hits book stores March 22. You can pre-order the book now at

Here’s an amazing video about the book featuring an interview with Dan and Terry that you should most definitely take a gander at:
