It looks as if another teen has taken his life because of gay bullying. Fourteen-year-old Kameron Jacobsen, of Orange Connty, N.Y., committed suicide earlier this week and reports are coming in saying Facebook taunts about his supposed sexuality may have been what pushed him over the edge. This is actually the second suicide at Jacobsen’s high school, Monroe Woodbury High School, in just two weeks. A junior football player also took his life a week earlier.
Jacobsen is one in a long list of suicides due to gay bullying that have been reported on recently. There were six alone back in September. Increase visibility and awareness about gay bullying led to the formation of the It Gets Better Project, a star-studded (Ellen, Tim Gunn, Neil Patrick Harris, Eve, Kim Kardashian, Kesha, Jason Derulo, Nicki Minaj, Chris Colfer, Hilary Clinton, and Obama, among many others) support group that started on YouTube in support of The Trevor Project, a gay teen suicide hot line.
