British director and writer Andrew Haigh‘s new film Weekend was the talk of the South By Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival last week. The U.K. feature follows the small intricacies and passionate moments between a gay couple (Tom Cullen and Chris New) who meet and fall for each other over a weekend. Weekend had it’s world premiere at SXSW and the reviews that have started coming in aren’t too shabby.
Here’s a synopsis of the film from the SXSW Film Festival Web site:
On a Friday night after hanging out with his straight mates, Russell heads out to a gay club, alone and on the pull. Just before closing time he picks up Glen and that weekend, in bars and in bedrooms, getting drunk and taking drugs, telling stories and having sex, the two men get to know each other. It is an encounter that will resonate throughout their lives.
